At the age of 60, Instiper Yogyakarta has been continually improving with being different. The plantation and forestry university has come up with a new formation of New INSTIPER based on Advanced Technology (NIwAT) 18/22. It is in line with the direction of President to establish the faculty of palm oil.
“Instiper is now different. If you come there in the afternoon, you will see many students are still around doing their extra-curriculum or academic activities,” said Dr.Ir. Purwadi, Ms, the Rector of Instiper Yogyakarta by the end of October 2018.
Purwadi said that before 2000 only just few students were still around in the campus in the afternoon. It was because of the minimum activities of extra-curriculum and academy. But now, students are hectic with many activities.
Instiper has three faculties with 5 programs of study. The three faculties are agriculture, agriculture engineering, and forestry engineering.
Purwadi said that Instiper really understands the need for information technology in tertiary education. Even he has involved himself in planning, implementation, and supervision of Instiper transformation based on TI, which was design since 2017.
According to Purwadi, the technological abundance should be utilized by universities like Instiper. The technology has been developing so fast to help realize a better and faster process of learning. That is why Instiper has entered the third stage of transformation known as New INSTIPER with Advanced Technology (NIwAT) 18/22. This transformation program was launched on March 7, 2018.
INSTIPER is finalizing the development of a new library building with a concept of digital library. “Students can read scientific and research journals through internet access. And they can also read e-book,” said Purwadi.
Purwadi said the idea of President Jokowi had been realized by Instiper, even before President expressed such idea. For example, Instiper has applied AIRICA (Artificial Intelligence Research and Innovation Center for Agroindustry). This program is realized under a cooperation between INSTIPER and Bina Nusantara University and NVIDIA of the US.
He said that later the ground floor of the library building will be the STIPER Center of Palm Oil Knowledge. They will also further develop the system of e-learning or remote system of learning. It is aimed to help the public and industrial players, especially those in remote areas, to access lectures.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has always asked for the establishment of coffee and oil palm faculties. Such intention has been always expressed during scientific forums and meetings with universities’ rectors.
Such cooperation with the third parties has been also realized through the implementation of Stiper Edu Agro Tourism (SEAT) as education tourism destination, optimizing the Stiper Eco Agro Industry (SEAI) on plantation consultancy, Center of INSTIPER Services (CIES), Center of English for University Student (CEUS), Center of ICT for Plantation Management (CIPM), and Center of Innovation for Applied Technology (CITT).
